There is another Volvo V40 T4 Phase II Manual in Australia!

johna posted 3 years ago

I've posted previously suggesting that there is only one phase 2 Volvo V40 T4 in Australia, but I just came across a second one that is also a manual.

This is a 4/2001 model in an aqua shade (Sydney Bay Pearl Metallic) offered for sale by auction by Gray's in Newcastle, NSW.

A VIN lookup confirms it is a T4 with B4204T5 engine.

Mileage is 160,635 km.

The cosmetic condition of the car is not good, the paint having lots of clear coat peel, sun damage and a few significant dents, and the interior looking worn and sun-damaged too.

Unusually, it has a cloth interior, and the front seats are electric.

Mechanical condition is unknown, other than it is mentioned in the description that the engine turns over. In the photos the tachometer is showing the car idling so it seems that the engine runs.

Will post a reply with the final price once it sells. Unfortunately the condition means it is not one I want to buy. Maybe.

Highest bid was $609 but the reserve was not met. Based on the scale shown on the screen, the reserve was likely to be $1,500.

Strangely, there is another car (2016 Isuzu MU-X) currently advertised with the same NSW number plate (ERM50V). It is at a car dealer in Tamworth. I'm guessing that the V40 had custom plates and was traded on this Isuzu and the plates swapped. The RMS shows that number plate against the V40.

[Edit: confirmed that the car was sent to auction by Country Autos in Tamworth]

Up for auction again, and already at $709 with 3 days to go. Reserve appears to have been lowered to $1,200.

Auction number two resulted in a highest bid of $909 which didn't meet the reserve.

Despite being no reserve this time, there were no bidders so the car was unsold.

Due to the change of fees from 30% to 20% once the sale price exceeds $1,000, the total price for highest bid of $909 in the second auction would only have been around $30 less than buying this time around at $1,009, so I'm surprised that the last high bidder didn't try again.

I was tempted to buy it this time around, but was concerned about not having actually looked at the car in person, and the possibility that some of the other interested parties might have actually gone to see it and yet they aren't willing to pay that price, so maybe there is something major wrong with it.

Auction number 4 has started. $9 starting bid and an unknown reserve price (suspected to be around $800). I'm in this time at $9!

It sold for $889 plus fees (would be a total of just under $1,200)! But not to me, although I did put in a couple of bids.
