I bought a 2002 Volvo V40 sight-unseen
I saw a post on a Volvo forum for a V40 that had an issue with abnormal noise, possibly coming from the driveshafts. It looked interesting so I sent an email to the seller.
I didn't get a reply for a week or so, but the seller did answer my questions and let me know that the car had been towed to a repairer where it was currently sitting but not going to be repaired as they were too busy and moving or closing down or something like that.
The car sounded like it had been cared for but had some wear and tear from use and being parked outside.
It's a late 2002 model so has the updated instruments and three spoke steering wheel. It has done about 210,000 km.
After some back and forth, I was offered the car at a cheap enough price that I could hopefully fix the current problem and not lose money if I decided not to keep it.
It was over an hour away and it was a bit difficult to get down and see it, so I opted to buy it without looking at it, and arrange to get it towed to another repairer.
So that's what happened this week. I'm currently waiting on a call from the repairer for an estimate on getting it repaired and then hopefully I will pick it up in a day or two and see it for the first time.
