Volvo S40/V40 - Identifying the chassis type

1996 to 2004 Volvo S40 and V40 can be ordered with various suspension offers, either Comfort, Dynamic or Sport.

The type is recorded in a 6-digit code that is located in position "G" of the VIN plate in the engine compartment.

Positions 1 and 2:
Indicates the specification of the front spring struts.
-Comfort: 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A
-Dynamic: 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B
-Sport: 2C, 3C, 4C, 5C
-Overseas Comfort Chassis: 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D

Position 3:
Indicates the dimensions of the front anti-roll bar.
-Comfort, Dynamic, Sport: V=19mm
-Overseas Comfort Chassis: W=17mm

Positions 4 and 6:
Indicates the specification of the rear suspension.
-Comfort: 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A
-Dynamic: 1B, 2B, 3B
-Overseas Comfort Chassis: 1C, 2C, 3C
-Comfort Nivomat: 1D, 2D
-Sport: 1E, 2E
-Dynamic Nivomat: 1F, 2F

Position 6:
Indicates the dimensions of the rear anti-roll bar.
-Dynamic, Sport: X=16mm
-Dynamic Nivomat: Y=15mm
-Comfort, Overseas Comfort Chassis: Z=13mm
